Do you feel less productive when working from home?
There’s no denying that working from home has its perks: no rush-hour traffic, no need for a fancy work wardrobe, and the ability to take a break for a midday nap (or a walk around the block). But many people feel that they’re less productive when working from home.
Avoid distractions
When you work from home, it’s easy to get distracted by all the things that need to be done around the house, laundry can pile up or your pets might be begging for attention and not to mention all the other distractions online, such as social media and Netflix! Before you know it, you’ve either spent all day on household tasks or working on things that aren’t important.
The truth is, just like you, I also succumb to momentary lapses of procrastination so to avoid getting distracted, it’s important to create a work-friendly environment.
FOllow your body clock
Do you ever feel like you’re just not in the mood to do anything? Well, that might be because your body is telling you to take a break. Our body clocks, or circadian rhythms, determine when we feel most awake and energetic, and when we feel like taking a nap.
Some individuals are like owls that thrive in the night, while others join in the bustle of the morning jive. It’s best to figure out whether you’re a night owl or a lark so you can schedule your tasks within those hours.
Eat on time
When you’re hungry, it can be difficult to focus on anything else. By eating regular meals, you’ll be less likely to get sidetracked by your stomach and more likely to stay focused on your work. Try to schedule regular meals and snacks throughout the day to keep your energy up and if you find yourself getting hungry between meals, have a healthy snack instead of turning to unhealthy options. Also, eating at your desk is a bad habit that can lead to weight gain and decreased productivity.
Plan and prioritize your tasks
It can be tough to know where to start when you have a lot of things to do. But by taking a little time to plan out your day, you can make sure that you’re making the most of your time.
Start by writing down all of the tasks that you need to do. Then, prioritize them based on what’s most important. Once you know what needs to be done first, figure out how many hours you need to complete each task.
Take breaks
I’m a big believer in taking breaks. I think it’s really important to step away from your work and give your mind a break, even if it’s just for a few minutes. I like to use my breaks to do things that are productive, like checking my email or reading a book. It’s a great way to stay focused and productive throughout the day.
It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and work non-stop. But if you don’t take breaks, you’ll quickly become burnt out. Instead, try to schedule in breaks throughout the day to be more productive. During your break, you can do something relaxing, like reading a book or taking a walk, or something more productive, like catching up on email or working on a project. Just make sure you’re not spending your break working.
Have time for self-care
When was the last time you indulged in some self-care?
Whether it’s a relaxing bath, reading your favorite book, taking a nature walk, or simply spending time with loved ones, taking some time for yourself is essential for a healthy mind and body. So, what are you waiting for? Schedule in some self-care time this week.
It’s no secret that recharge time is essential for productivity. After all, we can’t be at our best if we’re constantly running on empty.
